Widening Horizons records, 1961-2000.

Organizational records (1961-1999) consist of articles of incorporation, advisory board and committee minutes, correspondence, programs, reports, directories, news clippings, financial records, new clippings, press releases, and photographs. The advisory board was a group of volunteers separate from the regular board, which was comprised of professionals. There was no hierarchy to the various committees, and the creation of the separate coordinating, steering, and evaluation committees was made at the suggestion of D.C. public schools officials. The series is arranged by document type and then chronologically. Project files (1962-2000) are arranged in five sub-series arranged alphabetically according to the specific Widening Horizons programs. The five programs are Project MEN (1968-1970); Sea Devils (1967-1978); Summer Tours (1962-1986); Urban Service Corps (1964-1967); and Work Orientation Program (1968-1993).
